yeah aha shit is hard at first, i figured it out to play a standard game i need to build and paint 55 more models to make my HQ group and my two platoon command squads, and my 4 infantry squads

HQ-5 models
platoon squads- 5x2
infantry-10x4

and thats if i decided to not add any thing else besides the tank i already have.

I really wish this didnt cost hundreds of dollars to build a decent army. I played this a ton when I was a kid and would love to get back into it.

Cant count how many weekend and summer days I spent playing this shit.

that terrain rules, i had a similar setup in my basement as a kid, but on an 8x8 foot table. it was absurd. I had enough tiles for an entire city, a whole set of winter-scape, and then a set of grass/jungle/forest type style. Warhammer was my jam growing up. I miss it for sure.

I used to play this when I had better concentration and more money, but now I'm waiting for the WH40K mmo. Shit is going to decimate every other MMO out and ever hoping to be out. I will seriously get some sort of WH40K tattoo. Probably the Space Hulk shit or Blood Ravens.

I have a 2,500 point ultramarine army sitting in my room still.

I remember the day I got my dreadnaught, I was the happiest kid ever.

If I had the extra cash flow, I'd definitely get back into it.

I'll post some pictures, I run a Deathwing/Ravenwing army comprised fully of Terminators and Bikes. I did a ton of converting and am in the progress of finishing the painting. Took 2nd in my first tournament.

Go to a gaming store, preferably not one owned by Games Workshop and ask the people there. They love to get newblood. Also, most of the people into it are not as bad as some would suggest. The kids I met at the local store were actually fairly normal. There are a few odd ducks out there. I played a fat kid who constantly made sound effects for things shooting and blowing up.

Also when are they going to make a good movie based on this game. So much potential. I mean there's already a killer metal album based on the game. What gives Hollywood?

From what i know theres not much "keeping up" you have to do. new shit comes out every once and while but its not nesscessary that you get it. I know what you mean about magic though...once youve got everything sorted out a new set drops like a week later

40k never goes out of date which is one of the best things about it. You can build one competitive army and stick with it for quite a while. MTG on the other hand goes out of date after a year or so cause of the constant card rotation. The other problem is MTG is highly unbalanced and everyone plays the same exact decks which means you will have to buy power cards at inflated prices. 40k is far more balanced with only a few army lists that are considered elite, however all armies are competitive if played correctly.

They're coming out with a straight to dvd 3D movie pretty soon done in the style of the opening cut scenes of the Dawn of War series. That'll be like the test product for the public. If there's a positive response, GW's probably going to at least think about some kind of major motion picture.

Shit is like crack for me.. I really can't control my spending at all at the moment, but I see it calming down a bit over the next few months.. I've got a Tau army that I need to paint and i'm about 40% of the way through painting my Ork army. The new washes and foundation paints are amongst the greatest things to happen to my life as it means I can make my models look half decent without having any real painting skills. I've been painting my models at lunchtime in my new job, it gives me an hour a day, although at that rate I still only get about 5/6 models done in a week.

Been on a real Fantasy tip the last few months.. I've finished my Wood Elves army model wise (about 40% painted currently) and have just finished assembling an Ogre Kingdoms army which is 0% painted. On top of that I keep buying Dwarf and Orc and Goblin stuff as well because I can't help myself. Thank God I got a new job so I can afford all this shit. I think once i've finished my Dwarfs off though (one battalion pretty much should do it) i'm not going to buy any models for a while (planetstrike buildings aside) or start any more projects.. I've got some time off work coming up after an operation i'm having this summer, so hopefully can break the back of my painting then and get it all under control.

Ager man, your board looks incredible.

i've had a empire army for ages... none of my friends play it anymore... so they are resigned to warming my shelf.

besides it costs too much now if i wanted to start up and build up a new army.

it is definitely too expensive and I agree that GW could reach a wider audience with lowered prices. However if you are smart you will save 20% on every item you buy by purchasing through third party retailers. My army which is tournament ready cost less than $200.

Yeah word on that, buying from online stores makes life so much easier. I pick the odd thing up in my local store, but normally place an order just after payday with someone like Maelstrom or Wayland Games. I'm not sure what's best for dudes in the US, but I know there are plenty of retailers over there offering 20% off which makes it a lot more affordable.

If I didn't have the money, i'd get a battalion or something to get me started then spend £30 or something a month on it.. It would be enough to get a unit which I could then spend the month painting. Would probably work a lot better for me as i'd be more focused and probably get an army completey finished for once in my life.

Me and a friend once spent 2 days playing a Tau vs Imperial guard battle, 9,000 points per side. It was so big that we couldnt fit half of it on a 6x6 jungle map.

Also i won, the Tau are possibly the most lethal army in 40k if you know how to use them properly.

Tau sucks now, they introduced something called run where you can give up your shooting phase to move an extra d6, that effectively ended Tau's domination.

Best armies are Eldar, Chaos Space Marines and Orks because of three power lists: Mech Eldar, Dual Lash and Nob Bikers

I'm always semi tempted to start playing again but havnt for years and years dunno if I'd be able to catch up with the rules as I'm still mainly familiar with 3rd edition 40k, pretty sure I've still got a fairly reasonable Marine army for 40k and Empire one to assemble and paint on top of an existing old old dark elf one. Always prefered Nercomander though.

edit: actually think I've probably got a alright sized guard army someware too.
