I know this sounds cheesy but about.com has an awesome compilation of military enlistment info including lists of jobs, enlistment bonuses, basic training info, etc. The website is maintained by an AF retiree who also writes other military study guides for the ASVAB and other tests. I'd say it;s about 90-95 % accurate. It helped me with when I went through my Navy enlistment period.

I'm positive that each unit is different but he seems to like the unit he is with now. He is an E-5 so his life is alot easier than it used to be. This deployment, they're stationed in southern Iraq so they're not utilizing the technical training from AIT because its not really needed where he is. He is doing more 11B shit than anything else right now. Are you going to Sill for BT?

I am 21 and in college, and have wanted to join the military since I was probably like 13. Now I kind of wish that I had enlisted after high school, but I only have a year left in school so basically my mindset is fuck it I might as well finish up and get my degree before I do anything.

Right now I think I am planning on pursuing an Option 40 (Ranger) contract in the Army, which guarantees you Airborne and Ranger Assessment and Selection Program. I want to go 11B, but 13F and 68W are also pretty intriguing, I think the training pipeline for Special Operations Medic is supposed to be reallllly long though and Im not super passionate about it so I dunno.

For a long time I really wanted to be a Marine infantryman, but on doing alot more research I think the Ranger Regiment definitely suits my interest more. I think it is a bit more of a risk, as if for whatever reason you don't make it through RASP you get sent worldwide but I figure the reward is much much greater. Plus I have heard that in the Marine Corps you have to put with endless amounts of beuracratic bullshit, like way worse than in the Army.

Any of you guys who have been there done that and have any advice for me please feel free to chime in. Thank you guys for doing what you do.

Option 40 has nothing to do with Selection though. The only way to do that right off the street is to come in through the X-Ray program. You're right about the SF Medic course being long. That's what I was selected for and I'm looking at almost two years of training. I have never wanted anything more than that green beret though so I don't mind.

Ranger Regiment is pretty cool. Just know that it's an ALL volunteer force and everyone is a Type-A personality. If you don't like competition then it's not for you. I thrive on that shit.

Yeah yeah Im not talking about Special Forces, my interest is strictly in the 75th. When I said selection, its because they changed the name of RIP to "Ranger Assessment and Selection Program" and now its 8 weeks instead of 4. From what I understand the first 4 weeks is constant smoke to try and get as many people to quit as possible, and the next 4 weeks is more technical skills so that once you get assigned to a battalion youre ready to deploy immediately.

Definitely see what you're saying about the competition. I wouldn't want it any other way. Thats 100% my motivation for wanting to do Special Ops, I want to be surrounded by guys who are absolutely the best in the world at what they do, not someone who joined the Army and doesn't enjoy his job. I read the forums on armyranger.com fairly often and it seems like theres always DEPers on there talking about how they were able to get the option 40 on their contract but yeah if what you said is true then it looks like it might be a little harder to get what I want.
