You're the only person telling me not to lie so I'd really like to know why. I'm more of a "By any means necessary" kind of guy so if it's because of some moral conflict, that won't be an issue. I just don't want to get kicked out if a problem came up.
I'm the only person telling you, because nobody else wants to chime in and do what is right. You're asking service members about lying at MEPS, you have your FB attached to your profile, which shows your city and name. It just takes one person to contact MEPS about this.

That's the thing. I have no problem with physical activity. I would probably excel in basic. The only times I ever feel it even a little is once in a while, I'll be laying in bed and start to get a little wheeze. What exactly does separated mean?
You'll get medically discharged and sent home. Your recruiter will probably be really happy with you as well.
I can see where people with asthma are upset..especially if it rarely bothers them. I work out with a guy with asthma and he's a beast...can easily do a 30 minute Crossfit workout and be fine. It's when those attacks hit that it can be dangerous..and fatal if you are in an environment where you have no access to your inhaler. | | Back to top

If you were diagnosed as a kid, maybe you should go to the doc and see if you still have it.
If you want to get through MEPS tell the truth, and ask to take a pulmonary function test. Let your recruiter know and he should be able to work a waiver with a pulmonary function test that says you're good. The pulmonary function test will have to be taken at a different location after you already got the "no go" from MEPS for having childhood asthma.
Also it's not like they don't give out inhalers when you get broncitis...cuz they definitely do. | | Back to top

All of the NCO's came to an agreement that integrity should be at the forefront in the decision to steer you in the right direction, and in the decision you make in whether to lie or not at MEPS to join the most professional organization in the entire world. Look up the acronym LDRSHIP as it pertains to the Army. This is coming from a combined 250 years of military experience sitting in that room. | | Back to top

I will tell you why, from my point of view as a PL, you shouldn't lie to the recruiter or at MEPS. This no shit happened to me. I had an E6 team leader who lied at MEPS and almost got kicked out of basic but some how managed to make it when he had a serious skin condition. Every time he got in the sun he got serious blisters. Not like blisters you get on your feet that fill with puss, but he got blisters that filled with blood, then scabbed over. I can't remember what its called but its a legit thing I looked up when he told me. Well 4 weeks before we're supposed to deploy shit gets too real for him and he decides he is gonna use his disease and get non-deployable. He goes to the doc and they think he has some form of Lupus. Now he's some broke dick TL that the Army spent millions on sending him through EOD school, specialized training afterwards, pre-deployment training, and what is he good for? He can type on a computer, but so can our admin guy.
Do you know how hard it is to get another TL? Not even a full bird colonel will send a new one to us. So now my PSG has to fill the spot, be a TL and a PSG.
To say that everyone in the Army doesn't have some ailment that is wrong with them would be a lie. What leadership is absolutely sick and tired of is excuses. If you got some shit wrong with you, let it be known so you can take care of it, but don't hide it so that later on down the road someone else has to carry your worthless ass. | | Back to top

I understand integrity once in the military. But you gents realize that a lot of the"Greatest Generation" lied to get into the military as well, right? These guys were 16/17 years old and would do anything to join the military. And they are fucking heroes as a result.
So when you all enlisted, you told 100% of the truth the entire time?
I'll be honest, I didn't. I didn't mention that I had mild child hood asthma, and was medicated for depression at one point.
After picking up E-5 in the Marines Corps, I became an Infantry officer. Lead a platoon through one of the worst provinces in Afghanistan while attached to SF. And brought every one of those mother fuckers home.
I think I did ok with myself. While in the military I followed the Corps Values and LDRSHIP in everything I did.
But while in MEPS, I was not a Marine, not a Soldier, not anything. But I was willing to do anything to be given the chance to be one. | | Back to top

i know plenty of fuckin eses who have it. if you truly want to join and serve your country then more power to ya. after basic or even during i saw a few fuckin eses mysteriously contract it. they have inhalers. the vast vast majority are wonderful soldiers. fuck the integrity shit, you want to serve your country and you aren't lying about crimes or other IMPORTANT shit, then just don't bring it up at meps. | | Back to top

All of us want to serve with the best of the best, and if this recruit wants to be in this badly, he'll probably be a great troop.
They're much more pressing issues than this facing the military service, and our recruits.

We have that one "sniper" as we call him, in our class. I pictured myself walking over to him, choke-slamming him and stepping on his face when he asked me to expand upon Essential Elements of Friendly Information.
But I politely expanded for his dumb ass who was one question away from failing a multiple choice, open notes, open laptop exam where the wording for the questions took you to the exact answer if you typed them into a .pdf search.

Often crowded, but they compensate with open registers at the PX, they even have a gun shop in the PX. Plenty of shoppettes. MWR is pretty resourceful. There is an Auto-craft shop near I-corps that is $4.00/ hour (i think) to rent bayspace to work on your POV with tools and mechanics on hand. I-5 literally runs right between Lewis and McChord. You have Tacoma 20 minutes away, Olympia 30 or so minutes away and Seattle a little less than an hour away. Traffic on post isn't bad except for key times during week days, Then it is HORRIBLE. A couple semi-sketchy areas right off post like Lakewood and Spanaway, but still not so bad. So much shopping within a 30 minute drive that your head will explode.
If you are the outdoor type like me, you will love it here. Even if you aren't, there is still plenty to do around the immediate areas.
I have no idea about off-post housing, but I guess I could ask, maybe even pick up some information sheets if you wanted. | | Back to top
