Applications close in June. Thought at least someone in here might be interested.

Holy hell, too bad I don't get out for a while, I'd be so interested in this.

Ryan, you're alive! How'd you're wrestling tourney go? Please tell me that Vincenza is awesome.

Wrestling tournament was great. I took fourth in weight class out of 20 wrestlers. I just had a dual meet today and won my match.

Vicenza isn't terrible. Italy as a whole is super rad. I'm loving it. You should come out this way. I know Neil is coming here after we get back from Afghanistan. He's in our STB in Germany right now.

Is Neil into hardcore? Integrity maybe? I'm at the STB too and need a buddy to go to the Integrity show next month!

Neil is into hardcore. He's a commo guy over there in STB. PFC I think Neil Jones is his full name. He's a really cool kid. I recommend his company.

Goddamn! I talked to him when I was in Baltimore on my way to Italy and he said he had orders to the 173rd STB in GE. Bragg sucks a lot of dick.

I stand corrected. Apparently Neil's orders got changed last minute and he ended up at Bragg. Kinda lame if you ask me.

Been dodgin PKMs,RPGs, and IEDs and what not down in the south here. Been having a fun time so far. GF's about to break up with me because I'm not emotionally attached enough. Sent her a letter in a jewelry box and she said it wasn't good enough basically . I guess that's what I get for getting in a relationship 6 months before deploying.

Proud to say that I'll be taking my physical test on Thursday, in order to finally get accepted into the Air Force Can't wait to get my job and to start on the fall. Hoping to get material management or something along those lines. Still need to work out hard to be in shape for BMT

Anything worth doing around here besides going to Tuscon or whatever?

For those of you who may be interested...I'm in the process of writing a book about my time in Afghanistan. I know I've come in here a couple of times and mentioned my Tumblr where I would write, but I've finally committed to putting it into book form.

I started a Kickstarter today to accept pre-orders for the book, and have had quite a bit of success already.

If you're interested, here's the link.

Thanks

Ahhh. I'll never forget the first time that I was in a room full of a bunch of fuckin eses in nothing but our underwear and one guy had a man thong and then we did a bunch of weird bodily manuevers before I went into a room alone with another man and he looked inside of my butt and touched my penis.

It's really not that bad, But that stuff did happen.
Hope you get go's for everything. What branch?

Hahahaha. That just happened to me today. It was cooler than what I thought it was going to be! It's funny how some people complain about having to pee in a damn cup, having to strip down to their underwear to excercise, or having to let an old fuckin ese stick his finger in your butthole. Unfortunately, I didn't finish my process because I got scheduled for an earwash on the 30th of May. Lame, isn't it? Hahahaha. It's all good! I'm ready to sign my contract

I'm joining The Air Force. So excited

Start an account with usstandardissue.com and get some oakley stuff, if you like oakley boots, which I do. Just get a timex watch it will do everything you need.

Also promotive.com is a sweet website you can sign up for with your ako account. they give really good discounts.

It was rough. It was even worse hearing the guys closest to him talk about his character. Everything about it just sucks. The slow salutes, the roll call. Everything about the ceremony.

Above all else I don't want to offend anyone in this thread out of ignorance, that said, I've heard that Generation Kill is one of the most realistic portrayals of current active duty situations, I was wondering if that was true. I was also wondering, as it portrays, that a unit will be armed with a variety of weapons. Some seem to have standard assault rifles, another with a sniper scope, another something heavier but carried (the best way I can put it is an LMG in Call of Duty). Honestly I've never fired a gun before so know next to nothing about weapons, but the culture of the armed forces really fascinates me. And regardless of my opinions on the war, I have nothing but respect for the situation you all have put yourself in and wish you nothing but the best.

As far as the weapons are concerned, yes. It's standard for a squad to have people assigned standard assault rifles while others are assigned sniper rifles, machine guns, and such.

I believe the machine gun you're talking about is the SAW gunner that carries the M249 with the collapsible stock and M68 or some kind of scope? I could be wrong, I just started watching the first episode tonight.

Thinking about a job change here in a little bit. Either resigning my commission for an enlisted EOD job in another branch (Navy possibly) or an inter-service transfer to Navy EOD and restart as an Ensign.

Or try out for SF when I get back from deployment.

Or get out and get an agency job.

Not sure what route I'm going to take but all I know is I'm done with the politics and what not. I don't hate the military I just don't want to keep playing the officer job. I'm so tired of not being allowed to go outside the wire when I want with my guys. Also tired of the risk averse nature of many officers.

Today, I had a WW2 combat cameraman who was in the Army tell me he considers himself lucky he was in the European theater in the 40's instead of the Iraqi theater in the 00's. I was speechless.

Then I found out one of the residents in the retirement home I work out was a ranger on D-day and was wounded, and then treated by a German medic. That blew my mind.

I also have an interview from a Marine who was in the pacific theater when he was 17 for 20 some odd months. If anyone of you want a copy of it, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you. Vets and military personal only please.

You'll never escape politics, and if you reset through the Navy, you'll be the guy that gets grief for being prior Army...combine that with the "2LT treatment". If you go Navy Enlisted, you'll get grief for dropping your commission, for being prior Army, and the Officers will likely give you grief as well. The Navy and the Army have an eternal, but convivial beef.

...but none of this may apply because I do not know the EOD community.

Any tips for Air Force BMT? I'm on the delayed entry program, and I yet have to swear in and sign my contract, so I might not start 'till the fall or early 2013. But, are there any tips for me? I really want to go through all that and be succesful!

There is always politics and risk aversion in management. Wherever management exists, politics are right there. Below management is the ankle biting world, with folks wishing to become management.

I think that the risk aversion comes from knowing the amount of repercussion/ripple effect that one event can do. Having to be cautious because so many folks try to trip you up, especially while being a junior O, can make someone very cautious in how they do things. This is obviously unfortunate, as it carries over into the decision making process for other things.

Work out, look online and see what you can start learning before you go, don't get into trouble, see if you can do anything to help you come in as an E-3.
